Clear communication between client and architect is an important element of the architectural process. Tyson and Billy Architects considers the client’s active involvement to be a vital contributing factor to every project’s success. We start the dialogue at the initial interview and continue it through all phases of the budgeting, design and construction work until final on-site inspections and the post occupancy interview. All meetings are documented and, especially during design development, frequent reviews are encouraged. Throughout the process, from conception to occupancy, firm principlas always remain intimately involved.

History

Beginning in 1919 as the practice of noted Northern Illinois architect, Jesse A. Barloga, the firm has flourished under the direction of three presidents since then, each contributing their own styles and philosophies to the firm’s legacy.

Jesse A. Barloga concentrated on many areas of architecture from single family homes to commercial projects and defined the city of Rockford’s skyline with the News Tower and West High School.

Raymond S. Knowland, AIA, who headed the firm from 1947-1979, excelled in industrial and residential designs. He also designed projects in Great Britain and Japan.

Thomas A. Smith, AIA, president from 1979-1989, established a high standard for the firm’s commercial work using modern design concepts.

The current president, Bruce G. Tyson, AIA, came to the firm in 1969 and became a principal in 1973. Under his leadership, the firm has expanded from its Illinois base to opening an office in Cape Coral, Florida, increasing its experience in all facets of building, including a special interest in NFP (not-for-profit) clients. His vision has enabled the firm to continue to grow as a leader in housing, educational and religious facilities, creating socially significant architectural works. Mr. Tyson is a licensed architect in the states of Florida, Illinois, and Wisconsin. He is also an active member of the American Institute of Architects and the National Council of Architectural Registration Boards.

Ronald G. Billy, Jr, AIA, the current vice president of the firm, became a partner in 1997, and now leads our Illinois office. His vibrant design concepts incorporate contemporary ideas and styles ranging from single family homes to assisted living facilities. Mr. Billy is a licensed architect in the states of Florida, Illinois, Wisconsin, Missouri and Oklahoma. He is also an active member of the American Institute of Architects and the National Council of Architectural Registration Boards.
